What size business is the program aimed at?


This program is suitable for any business with more than one employee.

·         If the business has a very small number of employees (even only 2) I will customise the program to meet those special needs, such as running workshops as shorter meetings, perhaps conducting a planning session with all employees, etc.

·         Generally my focus is on small to medium size organisations, but If the business is very large, I can conduct parts of the program for just one team, or for all teams.

Sample program


The process will be customised to your specific needs, but may look something like the following:


Stage one:  People management audit


I will meet with you at your premises to discuss your specific situation and identify your requirements.  We will audit of all aspects of people management in your business, discuss your goals and concerns, and long the way, present you with ideas and suggestions relevant to your situation. 


A report of the audit will be sent to you within one week, and will include a proposed program customised to your business with a detailed quote.  You may choose to implement all, part or none of this program.

The audit is like a “health check” for all aspects of people management in your organisation.  The audit alone will give you many good ideas of things that you can do to improve the performance of your people.

·       Employees understand the link between their work and the organisation’s goals, increasing motivation.

Stage two:  Performance management system


A performance management system will be set up to meet the specific needs of your organisation.  This may include competency profiling – identifying the key behaviours for each job type that are essential for success. 


We will provide you with

·     an implementation manual tailored to your organisation,

·     employee information sheets,

·     a performance planning form and

·     a presentation to explain the process to your team.


A meeting to be held later with your whole team (see stage four) will explain the process to them and help them to get started using it.


The time needed for this stage of the process varies depending on the system you require.





Stage three:  Team workshop


At this workshop, we will

·     look at any issues,

·     establish goals,

·     establish work requirements,

·     look at personal preferences, and

·     plan specific actions.


This will

·     start the process of gaining employee commitment to achieving organisational goals,

·     increase employee motivation, and

·     build team cohesiveness.


Prior to the workshop, team members will need to fill out a Team Management Index (TMI) questionnaire.  During the workshop they will each receive their own personal report and a Personal Discovery Workbook, as well as handouts.  You will receive a summary of the team member roles.


This workshop usually runs for one day, although it could be scheduled to run over two half days. 





Stage four:  Team objective setting


I will hold a meeting with your team to explain the performance management process and discuss any issues or concerns they may have.  Employees will then be assisted with the objective setting process.  This should be a consultative process between you and your employees.


If it is preferred, individual coaching can be given to the team manager about this process, who can then work through it with the team.





Stage five:  Ongoing support


You will be provided with information and assistance in implementing the rest of the performance management system.  For example, this may include

·     a mini-consultation prior to the first feedback meetings or formal appraisal to discuss specific employee issues

·     telephone or email support as required.

Continuing the process

Team workshop two:  High energy teams(one to two days)


High energy teams have team members who are committed to high level outputs and work with so much energy and enthusiasm that it is almost infectious.  The High Energy Teams model presents eight fundamental issues that need to be addressed if your team wants to achieve this high energy status.


This workshop extends the learning of Team workshop one, using knowledge gained from Team Management Index results.  Participants will each receive a comprehensive “High Energy Teams” workbook.




Team workshop three:  Linking skills(one to two days)


Linking skills are the “glue” that holds teams together.  Research and experience has shown that the majority of teams fail because of poor linking.  Focussing on the skills presented in this workshop can help teams to improve their performance enormously.


This workshop is also building on knowledge gained from Team Management Index results, although it can be presented as a “stand alone” module.  Participants will each receive a “Linking Skills” workbook.




Types of work profiles


The “Types of Work Index” (TWI) identifies which Types of Work functions are critical to the job’s success.  A brief questionnaire is filled out by the job holder and his or her manager, and these results are combined in a report – showing up any differences in perception.  These results can then be matched to the job holder’s work preferences, showing to what extent work preferences overlap the demands of the job.


This has many uses, including

·     Role clarification and work allocation

·     Identifying and addressing performance and motivational issues

·     Identifying development needs

·     Job design/redesign




Competency development guide


After going through a competency profiling process to establish which behaviours are essential for success in your business, and giving feedback to employees about their performance against these competencies/behaviours, you will now have found that to improve performance some employees may need to develop their skills.


A competency development guide is a manual that can be referred to when deciding on methods of improving skills.  It can include relevant reading, practical exercises, coaching and mentoring, courses (external or face to face) or other development options that we determine will be relevant to your business.


Your customised competency development guide can be linked to courses or learning opportunities that you offer internally, or to courses offered by other providers.  We can even write or obtain self-paced study workbooks or programs that you can use with your employees.  Alternatively, development may focus on practical activities, reading, watching videos/listening to tapes, or other development options.




Leadership development program


The leadership boost program will help your managers to develop leadership skills, so that they can inspire team members to want to work hard in achieving your business goals.

360 degree feedback


One of the most difficult areas in which to give feedback, are behavioural competencies - areas such as team work, communication, leadership, decision making, attention to detail, etc.  They may have been identified earlier in a competency profiling process as being essential to success, but you need a way to measure performance in these “soft skills”.  It is impossible to be completely objective, as there is no measurement that says to what level the individual has achieved those behaviours. 


Yet performance against these behaviours will be one of the most influential factors in overall success.


A 360 degree feedback system enables this feedback to become more objective.  It enables a several people who work closely with an individual to give specific feedback about the individual’s performance against the identified behaviours.  This is done through completing a confidential questionnaire and having the results compiled into a report so that the feedback is provided anonymously.  This means that rather than receiving the opinion of only one person, the feedback of a group of people who have different perspectives is combined.


This feedback then leads to discussion about how to improve performance in identified areas.


A 360 degree feedback process can be set up for all employees in your team.
